Hello!
My name is Jessica Maitland, IBCLC
I’m an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, DONA-trained Postpartum Doula, and proud member of the Ottawa Valley Lactation Consultants (OVLC) and Ottawa Valley Doulas (OVD). I have a B.A. in Psychology + Gender Studies from the University of Notre Dame.
I provide breastfeeding support and education (in-home and virtual), and postpartum doula care to families in Chelsea, Wakefield, Cantley, Val-des-Monts, Gatineau, Ottawa - and beyond.

My Story
When my son was born in 2017, I quickly felt overwhelmed and misdirected. The conflicting advice from books, healthcare providers, and social media left me questioning every decision. Thankfully, my postpartum doula team’s compassionate, knowledgeable support changed everything. They gave me the rest, practical guidance, and confidence I needed during one of life’s biggest transitions.

That experience inspired the work I do today. I trained as a Postpartum Doula and later became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Today, I provide personalized, evidence-based lactation and breastfeeding support, prenatal breastfeeding education, and postpartum doula care for families in Chelsea, Gatineau, Ottawa, and surrounding communities.

I believe in continually learning and expanding my skills. I regularly participate in professional education, conferences, workshops, lectures, and advanced training so that the care I provide reflects current research, best practices, and the evolving needs of new families.

Every family deserves the kind of support mine received. We sometimes forget that when a baby is born, so are the parents—and they deserve just as much compassion, guidance, and care.

What I Believe / My Approach
Inclusive support — Whether you're breastfeeding, chestfeeding, pumping, combination feeding, formula feeding, or finding your own path, all feeding choices and family structures are welcomed and respected.
Evidence-based guidance — My recommendations are grounded in current research, clinical experience, and best practices, while recognizing that every baby and family is different.
Whole-person care — Feeding is only one part of the picture. Your physical recovery, emotional well-being, confidence, and family dynamics matter too.
Realistic expectations — There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we'll create practical strategies that fit your goals, your baby, and your real life.

Ongoing Feeding Support
Support as feeding evolves, including bottle introduction, pumping, returning to work, breast refusal, tandem feeding, relactation, weaning, and other changes along your feeding journey.
Areas of Focus
I particularly enjoy supporting parents with prenatal education, chestfeeding, combination feeding, responsive bottle feeding, oral ties and tongue ties, and families navigating anxiety with feeding. I love helping parents to develop greater confidence and experience less stress.

I'm also passionate about expanding my experience supporting families with:
Inducing lactation
Adoptive feeding
Shared feeding journeys
Relactation
Breastfeeding multiples
Every feeding journey is different, and I'm always happy to talk with families about whether my experience and approach are a good fit for their needs.
